Advanced Placement Courses

Participation Qualifications

Advanced Placement courses within the United School District are designed to deliver a postgraduate level of instruction to students with an established history of academic performance.  The rigor associated with Advanced Placement selections requires that participants have the appropriate knowledge base and performance history to meet the course expectations established in the Advanced Placement examinations.

The District will establish the course enrollment and participation guidelines.  Students will be placed based upon rank order until the enrollment quota is filled.  The rank will assign grade level a priority status in descending order.  All other decisions regarding qualification will be based on the sum total of qualification categories a student meets.

  1. Student participation is voluntary and dependant upon qualification.
  2. Student must be currently enrolled in the 10th, 11th or 12th grades with the United School District.
  3. It is recommended that students meet the standard established in at least two of the following qualification categories:
    1. An overall grade percentage of 90% in the core academic subjects.
    2. A 90% average in the three prior courses the student has completed related to the Advanced Placement selection.
    3. A teacher recommendation from the instructor of a related course immediately preceding the Advanced Placement selection.

  1. A student will be counseled to clarify the rigor associated with Advanced Placement course requirements when the student meets only one of these qualification categories.
  2. Students who do not meet any of the qualification categories will not be eligible to participate in Advanced Placement selection.
