UNITED HIGH SCHOOL CHAPTER OF THE NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY
ARTICLE I-SELECTION OF MEMBERS SECTION I - The candidate must be a member of the sophomore, junior, or senior class and have attended United for at least one semester. The candidate must have a cumulative scholastic average of at least 93% in all subjects of 1 credit or more, beginning in the 9th grade. The actual selection of members is made by a majority vote of a faculty council. It consists of 5 teachers and the adviser(s). SECTION II - Once members, the students must maintain a grade average of 90% and maintain the high standards of leadership, service, and character that were used for the basis of selection. A student that falls below the 90% average will be placed on probation for one semester. Failure to achieve the requirement of 90% will lead to dismissal. The student may not be reelected at a later time. ARTICLE II-DUES SECTION I- No dues will be charged to members. ARTICLE III-MEETINGS SECTION I -Meetings will be held at least every month. Members are required to attend at least 75% of the meetings. The executive committee, consisting of the elected officers helps to direct the business affairs of the chapter. They may meet as frequently as deemed necessary. ARTICLE IV-OFFICER DUTIES SECTION I -The elected officers of the chapter shall be president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, historian, and parliamentarian. Officers will be elected by secret ballot at the last meeting of the school term. Present juniors and new members may vote. A candidate receiving a majority of the votes will be elected.
ARTICLE V-ACTIVITIES SECTION I -The chapter must do a service project with all members actively involved. Fund raising for Children's/Indiana Hospitals is a major activity. Members will provide peer tutoring in reading and study help for students. Members may participate in individual service projects. SECTION II -Members may participate in fund raising events to finance an educational field trip annually. SECTION III -Two seniors will be selected by the adviser to apply for the NHS scholarship. SECTION IV- All members should actively promote the highest standards of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. |
